Financial-Aid Information for Undocumented Students
Please do research for your unique situation. This is a guide based on a general scope of research.
Undocumented students are not eligible for federal financial aid, but they may be eligible for other forms of financial assistance. This includes…
State and Institutional Aid: Some states and colleges offer financial aid or scholarships to undocumented students. Policies vary by state and institution.
Foundation Scholarships/Private Scholarships: Many private organizations and foundations offer scholarships for undocumented students.
Research your institutes privately funded scholarships, foundation scholarships, or external funding. If there are scholarships that you can apply for- apply early.
Seek opportunities for eligible foundation scholarships if you are in band, orchestra, choir, etc.
Find ways to connect with your institution’s professors before graduating high school. This is to build a strong reputation, personality wise. These connections may help you in the process of applying to scholarships and even the higher institution.
Community and Non-Profit Organizations: Local community groups and non-profits sometimes provide grants or assistance to undocumented students.
DACA Recipients: If you are a DACA recipient, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), with a social security number, refer to the Federal Student Aid Website for more information about eligibility concerning your situation.
FAFSA Eligibility for Non-U.S. Citizens: Refer to the FAFSA’s Eligibility for Non-U.S. Citizens page to see if you can be considered as an eligible noncitizen if you fall into certain categories.
To qualify for federal student aid, certain eligible noncitizens must be able to provide evidence from the USCIS that they are in the United States for other than a temporary purpose with the intention of becoming a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Please do your own research, online and with your higher institution. I hope what I have provided helps!
